Validation

From proof-of-concept to proof-of-demand.

A technical proof is powerful, but commercial proof requires a different lens: customer urgency, willingness to change, and a clear adoption path.

A proof-of-concept shows that a technology can work. Proof-of-demand shows that a market has a reason to care. For advanced-material teams, both types of proof matter, but they answer different questions.

Many teams spend too long strengthening the technical case before testing whether customers feel enough urgency to change. The stronger path is to connect technical experiments with commercial learning from the beginning.

What proof-of-demand looks like

Proof-of-demand can include customer interviews, pilot interest, paid validation, letters of intent, partner engagement, or evidence that a specific problem creates measurable cost, risk, or performance pressure.

The point is not to replace technical evidence. The point is to make sure the technical proof is pointed at a market that can adopt it.
